Accepted solutions

The person who asked a question can mark one answer as the accepted solution. Learn how to accept, change or remove it, and what it means for recognition.

Only questions have accepted solutions. Discussions do not.

Who can accept #

  • The member who asked the question.
  • A forum moderator or administrator.

Accept an answer #

  1. Open your question and find the answer that solved it.
  2. Select the accept control on that answer.

The answer is marked Accepted solution, shown prominently, and the question becomes Solved.

Change or remove #

  • Accepting a different answer moves the acceptance. Only one answer can be accepted at a time, and the change is recorded in the audit log.
  • Unaccept removes it; the question returns to not solved.

Recognition #

An accepted solution earns its author contribution points and reputation, within a daily limit. When the acceptance moves or is removed, that award is reversed; if it is accepted again, it is earned again. Accepting your own answer earns nothing. Accepted solutions also count towards expertise badges and the Problem Solver badges.
