Answering questions and replying

How to post an answer or a reply, what makes an answer useful, and how replies work in place of separate comments.

You need to be signed in.

Post an answer or reply #

  1. Open the question or discussion.
  2. Scroll to the composer at the end of the topic.
  3. Write at least 20 characters. Wrap code in triple backticks; mention someone with @their-handle.
  4. Optionally attach one file.
  5. Select Post.

What makes an answer useful #

  • Answer the question that was asked, for the version and platform described.
  • Explain why, not only what: the cause, the fix and how to confirm it worked.
  • Show commands and SQL in code blocks, with sensitive values removed.
  • If you are not sure, say what you would check next.

"Same problem here" does not help the next reader; say what you tried.

Comments #

PKOUG does not have a separate comment or reaction feature. To ask the author for clarification or add to an answer, post a reply and mention the person with @their-handle so they are notified.

Locked topics #

When a moderator locks a topic, only moderators can reply.

Points #

An answer earns contribution points once per question, within a daily limit, and never for answering your own question. See How contribution points are calculated.
