Fair-play rules for recognition

The safeguards that keep contribution points, reputation and badges meaningful, and what happens when activity looks unfair.

Built-in safeguards #

  • No self-credit: you cannot vote on your own content, answering your own question earns nothing, and accepting your own answer earns nothing.
  • One award per action: each action can earn its award only once, so repeating it — or withdrawing and re-casting a vote or acceptance — cannot earn it twice.
  • Daily limits on questions, answers, votes received and accepted solutions.
  • Reversals, not edits: removing content or withdrawing a vote reverses the matching award. Earlier entries in your activity ledger are never edited or deleted.
  • Milestones need real evidence: administrative adjustments never count toward community milestones, and problem-solving badges count accepted solutions that still stand.

Review #

Reciprocal voting between accounts and other unusual patterns are flagged for administrator review. An administrator can reverse any award with a recorded reason — for example plagiarism discovered after publication.

Not allowed #

Vote trading, multiple accounts, posting low-value content to collect points, and copying others' work as your own. These can lead to reversed awards, removed content and suspension.
